Reducing or Eliminating State Income Tax Is NFIB’s Top Legislative Priority

'Lowering income taxes benefits everyone by encouraging entrepreneurship and driving economic growth across the state'

NFIB State Director Leah Long says reducing or eliminating the state income tax remains its top legislative priority for the 2025 session, which begins on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

“Small business is the cornerstone of Mississippi’s economy, and reducing the state income tax will ensure they have the resources needed to invest in their operations, hire more workers, and contribute to their communities,” Long said.

“Lowering income taxes benefits everyone by encouraging entrepreneurship and driving economic growth across the state,” she said.

“While reducing the income tax remains our priority, we understand that any changes to the tax structure must consider the impact on local governments and ensure that essential public services are adequately funded,” Long said. “Small businesses do best in environments that balance fiscal responsibility and economic opportunity.”

“Our small business members look forward to working with Governor Reeves and legislative leaders on solutions that lower the tax burden while ensuring local governments remain financially healthy.”
