NFIB Urges Youngkin to Veto Bad Bills

NFIB Urges Youngkin to Veto Bad Bills

March 18, 2024 Last Edit: July 22, 2024

Time is running out for Gov. Glenn Youngkin to sign, amend, or veto harmful bills.

NFIB is encouraging its small business members to urge Gov. Glenn Youngin to veto bad bills that passed the General Assembly this session.
  • HB1/SB1, bills that increase the state minimum wage from $12 an hour to $13.50 by Jan. 1 and $15 by Jan. 1, 2026. These bills passed the House and Senate along party lines and are on their way to the Governor’s desk.
  • SB373, a measure that would require the commonwealth to create a government-run family and medical leave program funded by a tax on employers and employees. Passed the House and Senate and is headed to the Governor.

NFIB State Director Julia Hammond said the measures would drive up costs and make it harder for members to own, operate, and grow their businesses.

This year’s legislative session ended on March 9. Governor Youngkin has 30 days to sign, amend, or veto the bills. The General Assembly will return to Richmond for a single-day reconvened session to consider all of the governor’s amendments and vetoes.
