NFIB to Congress: Make the 20% Small Business Deduction Permanent Immediately

After Budget Resolution passage in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congress has the tools it needs to give Small Businesses certainty and avoid a Massive Tax Hike on Main Street
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 26, 2025) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, today called on Congress to immediately and urgently use the budget reconciliation process to make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent and provide certainty to America’s small businesses.
“Congress has the tools it needs; now it’s time for them to act and make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent for over 30 million small business owners,” said Adam Temple, NFIB Senior Vice President for Advocacy. “In less than a year, America’s small businesses are set to face a massive tax hike that would decimate their ability to hire, grow, pay their employees, and keep their doors open. With yesterday’s passage of the budget resolution, the budget reconciliation process presents the best opportunity for Congress to immediately act and prevent a tax increase on Main Street and make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent.”
The 20% Small Business Deduction was claimed by nearly 26 million small businesses in 2021. If made permanent, the deduction will grow the economy by $750 billion over the next ten years, while adding 1.2 million jobs each year. Over 91% of NFIB Members support making the Small Business Deduction permanent.
