Michigan's leading small business group slams House for rushed, partisan Right-to-Work repeal

NFIB State Director Amanda Fisher Interviewed on WJR Detroit's "Guy Gordon Show"

LANSING (March 9, 2023) NFIB Michigan State Director Amanda Fisher was featured yesterday afternoon on The Guy Gordon Show to talk about the party-line vote in the House Labor Committee to mark-up big-union backed bills to eliminate Michigan’s decade-old Right-To-Work law and compel union membership, as well as to reinstate onerous state prevailing wage regulations. The legislation was then rushed by backers to the House floor, ending in partisan approval votes last night.

“Governor Whitmer and the new legislative majorities seem to think moving Michigan forward means reverting to the failed labor and economic policies of the past,” said Fisher. “At the same time the Governor and legislative majorities are throwing billions of taxpayer dollars at large corporations to attract them to Michigan, they are rushing through coercive, anti-worker legislation that makes our state less attractive to outside investments and serves to drive current businesses away.”

Fisher reacted to the Labor Committee’s vote in a statement issued yesterday morning, and NFIB has worked to raise the alarm over the past weeks with an issue campaign, warning about a legislative push to eliminate worker freedom and repeal Right-to-Work: Michigan Small Businesses Launch Ad Campaign to Stop Right-To-Work Repeal. Fisher has pointed out that since Right-to-Work was enacted in 2013, wages have increased by over 20%, manufacturing jobs have risen by 26%, and even union membership has gone up.
