Statewide Radio and Digital Ads Begin Today Urging the Texas State Legislature to Cut the Inventory Tax

NFIB Launches ‘Cut the Inventory Tax’ Campaign

AUSTIN (Jan. 9, 2023) – As local job creators battle rising prices and a crushing labor shortage, the Texas State Legislature has an opportunity to stabilize the small business recovery. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, today announced the ‘Cut the Inventory Tax’ campaign, a paid effort including statewide radio and digital advertisements encouraging legislators to provide needed relief for Texas small businesses. “Texas is one of only nine states to tax inventory and outranks California in business property tax rates,” said NFIB State Director Annie Spilman. “From desktop computers to front-end loaders, small business owners must pay a tax on anything and everything used in their business – even if it doesn’t reap a profit. On top of 40-year high inflation, this cost gets passed onto the consumers. With an estimated $27 billion in the state coffers, it’s time for the Texas State Legislature to provide relief to small business owners and consumers alike by cutting the inventory tax.” Repealing or increasing the exemptions for the business personal property tax (or inventory tax) has long been a priority for NFIB. The ‘Cut the Inventory Tax’ campaign is a coordinated paid NFIB advocacy effort – with statewide radio and digital advertising, media, research, grassroots action, lobbying, and other efforts – to highlight how repealing the small business inventory tax would promote economic growth and encourage greater investment in small business employees.
