NFIB Continues to Push for Increased Healthcare Transparency

January 2, 2024 Last Edit: July 21, 2024

House Bill 49 would require hospitals and other providers to disclose the cost of procedures in advance.

One of NFIB’s top priorities during the second half of the 2023-24 legislative session will be the passage of House Bill 49, legislation that would increase hospital price transparency and reduce the cost of healthcare in Ohio.

The measure gained strong bipartisan support in the House, passing last summer by a vote of 90-5. NFIB Assistant State Director Cameron

Garczyk spoke in favor of the bill in September at a Small Business and Economic Opportunity Committee hearing, but no further action has been taken.

“The cost of health insurance remains one of the greatest challenges facing America’s small businesses,” Garcyzk said. “HB49 is commonsense legislation that would enable Ohioans to see how much they’ll have to pay before making difficult medical decisions.”
