NFIB’s Greg Moreland testified before committee members on small business issues

NFIB Pennsylvania State Director Greg Moreland testified before the House Republican Labor & Industry Committee meeting to discuss the regulatory burdens facing small businesses.

“The government has imposed approximately 165,000 different regulations on business, simply here in the Commonwealth. Laws are consistently being added to the books, amended, and sometimes even repealed…Additionally, for decades at the state and federal level, the legislative bodies have punted to unelected career bureaucrats in agencies, by empowering them to ‘write rules and regulations in accordance with this act.’ These rules and regulations have the force and effect of the law, leading to hefty fines, business license suspension, and unsurmountable legal bills,” Moreland explained.

Moreland also testified before the House Energy Committee on energy efficiency standards for appliances and House Bill 660. NFIB is concerned HB 660 would restrict the sale of certain appliances on the market and limit the freedom of choice in the marketplace for small businesses.

“NFIB is concerned that this legislation allows the government to pick winners and losers of commercial appliance products and allows the Department of Environmental Protection to set more stringent standards than the Department of Energy,” said Moreland.
