New York City Restricts Plastic Utensils, Condiment Packets, and Napkins from Takeout Orders

New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed a bill, in the beginning of 2023, prohibiting restaurants and food delivery services from providing plastic utensils, napkins, and condiment packets for take-out orders unless specifically requested by customers. The “Skip the Stuff” law went into effect in New York City on August 1st and includes food delivery platforms like Grubhub. Restaurants and delivery services that violate the law will be fined. Violations will be warnings, instead of monetary penalties, until July 1, 2024. After that, fines could be up to $50 or more for every offense. Learn more about the “Skip the Stuff” law here.
