State Director Testifies in Assembly Committee Against New Signage Mandate
NFIB State Director Eileen Kean testified before the New Jersey Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee on January 27th opposing newly introduced signage legislation.
Under the bill, A-4636, every business that sells gift cards would be required to display a notice near where the cards are for sale, cautioning consumers about gift card fraud. Kean explained that not every location has a conspicuous manner to post a notice as they are already inundated with requirements. Also, she pointed out that the civil penalty fee of $1,000 is ridiculously steep and would amount to a significant burden on small businesses.
The bill is now on second reading in the state Assembly.
