Main Street Urges Lawmakers to Keep Texas a Small Business State

AUSTIN (Jan. 14, 2025) – To kick off the start of the 89th Texas legislative session, NFIB State Director Jeff Burdett outlined several small business priorities for lawmakers, including inventory tax relief, tort and regulatory reform, and workforce development.

“Ensuring the Lone Star State remains a friendly small business state requires lawmakers to understand small employers’ unique challenges. Two years ago, the Legislature made real strides to reduce Texans’ tax and regulatory burden. Although Main Street is more optimistic about the economy, inflation continues to put pressure on costs while small business owners are struggling to find qualified applicants. More must be done to ensure our small businesses can create more jobs, expand their operations, and thrive. Main Street businesses are hopeful the Legislature will focus on passing meaningful inventory tax relief, promoting a balanced civil justice system, reducing additional regulations, and bolstering our skilled workforce.”
