Kansas Job Creators Express Disappointment in Governor Kelly’s Veto of Meaningful Tax Relief

January 29, 2024 Last Edit: July 18, 2024

NFIB will continue working with lawmakers to advance tax cuts that will make Kansas more competitive.

TOPEKA (Jan. 29, 2024) – Following Governor Kelly’s veto of HB 2284, the Legislature’s meaningful tax relief package, NFIB State Director Dan Murray issued the following statement.

“With our state’s $3 billion surplus, politics can’t stand in the way of meaningful tax relief. That’s why it’s so disappointing Governor Kelly once again vetoed tax cuts for hardworking Kansans. Our small business owners operate on infamously thin margins. Tax cuts will go a long way toward simplifying the tax code and providing financial relief to our job creators and their employees. Reforming the tax code will allow Main Street businesses to raise wages, expand benefits, and create more jobs. We ask state lawmakers to come together to support meaningful tax relief for Kansans.”
