Nearly all the candidates endorsed by the NFIB Indiana PAC came out on top in the November 8 general election.

Overall, 40 of the 46 candidates endorsed for seats in the Indiana House won their races, while 13 of the 15 endorsed Senate candidates were elected or re-elected. The list of winners includes 12 NFIB members.

“Hoosier small businesses won big in this year’s election,” NFIB State Director Natalie Robinson said. “Our members helped elect leaders who understand the challenges facing Indiana’s small business community. We look forward to working with all of them to pass legislation that will enable small businesses to keep growing and creating jobs.”

Incumbents retained their seats in most of the Indiana House races on the midterm election ballot. However, one race remains uncertain as Scott Hawkins (R) says he does not plan to concede to incumbent Rita Fleming (D) in the House District 71 race and may seek a recount. The Clark County Election Board has until Nov. 21 to certify the election results with the state. If the current report holds, there will be 71 Republicans and 29 Democrats in the Indiana House, unchanged from before the 2022 election.

The makeup of the State Senate remains mostly unchanged. The Senate Republicans picked up one seat bringing the chamber’s total to 40 compared to the Democrat’s 10 seats. Andrea Hunley in district 46 is the only Democratic freshman senator joining the Indiana General Assembly in January.

In other statewide races, incumbent Auditor Tera Klutz (R) was defeated by ZeNeal Brooks (D) with 60% of the vote. In the Secretary of State race, Diego Morales (R) defeated Destiny Wells (D) with 54% of the vote. In the race for Treasurer, Daniel Elliott (R) defeated Jessica McClellan (D) with 61% of the vote. No NFIB endorsements were made in these races.

On the national front, incumbent U.S. Senator Todd Young (R) defeated Mayor Tom McDermott (D) with 59% of the vote. Of the nine Indiana Congressional seats, Republicans continue to hold 7 and Democrats hold 2, unchanged from before the election. Rudy Yakym, who replaced the late Jackie Walorski in Indiana’s 2^nd district, and NFIB member Erin Houchin in the 9^th district are both new to Congress.
