Illinois Minimum Wage to Jump to $15/Hour January 1
Illinois’ minimum wage is set to climb to $15 an hour on January 1, up from $14 an hour in 2024.
The minimum wage for tipped workers will rise to $9 an hour and the minimum wage for youths under 18 will increase to $13 an hour.
These hikes are in accordance with Public Act 101-0001, which passed the Illinois General Assembly in 2019. More information about Illinois’ minimum wage law can be found here.
The City of Chicago has set a higher minimum wage. For employers with four or more workers, it is $16.20 an hour. For tipped workers, the minimum wage is $11.02 an hour.
NFIB successfully opposed a legislative effort to eliminate the tip credit—which would have effectively raised the minimum wage for tipped workers—during the 2024 spring legislative session.
