Lawmakers still haven't voted on several key issues

Florida's Legislative Session is Winding Down

Florida’s small businesses scored some big victories, including long-awaited lawsuit abuse reforms. “This is one of the more unusual legislative sessions in that most of the big issues have already passed,” NFIB State Executive Director Bill Herrle said. “We aren’t seeing as much of the last-minute legislative wrangling that typically occurs at this point in session.” But as the legislature nears the conclusion of its 60-day regular session, there are a few major issues still in the pipeline. Two of the outstanding issues are the $1 billion-plus tax cut bill that is expected to be passed along with the state’s $116 billion budget, and we’re still waiting to see whether lawmakers will pass the data privacy bill that Gov. Ron DeSantis supports. “We’ve taken a hard look at the data privacy bill, and we are not concerned that it will have a far-reaching impact on small businesses,” Herrle said. “The bill exempts businesses with less than $1 billion in revenue each year.” This year’s regular session of the Florida Legislature is scheduled to come to a close on Friday, May 5.
