Farmworker Overtime Threshold: Save the 60 Hour Workweek
Lowering the overtime threshold will have catastrophic effects on family-owned farms already facing a severe labor shortage and increased labor costs. Agriculturally adjacent businesses will face increased costs of goods, as well as the potential for greater supply chain issues and decreased production times. Lowering the threshold will not only affect farmers, but retailers, restaurants, grocers, and many others who rely on their local farm’s goods and services.
The Department of Labor Commissioner, Roberta Reardon, now has 45 days to accept or reject the recommendation to lower the overtime threshold from 60 hours to 40 hours per week and she needs to hear how this would affect agricultural businesses.
Take action by emailing Commissioner Reardon NOW! Tell her to REJECT lowering the threshold to protect New York farms and farm workers.
