The state’s largest small business advocacy group, NFIB/Vermont, named Shawn Shouldice its state director in January 2004. She has worked tirelessly for the past 29 years on behalf of small businesses in many economic sectors; local, state, regional and international trade associations; and non-profit organizations, representing their interests before the state Legislature and state administrative and regulatory agencies. She has a long and close working relationship with Vermont’s delegation to Congress and their staff. Shouldice in 1987, co-founded William Shouldice & Associates, then in 2007 after a successful 19 year career she formed Capital Connections, LLC; a government and public relations firm that is built on her years of expertise in providing her clients with legislative and regulatory issues management, stakeholder engagement, campaign strategies, grassroots advocacy, and communications platforms, whose expertise, in addition to small business, includes healthcare, energy, transportation and taxation. She has served on the Board of Trustee for the Lake Dunmore/Fern Lake Association, served as a Board of Director of The Advocacy Group, and was appointed by then-Governor Jim Douglas to serve as the Vice Chair of the National Governor’s Association Selection Committee for the NGA’s Public-Private Partnership Awards. Shouldice received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Merrimack College, and an associate’s degree in business administration from Endicott College. Shawn’s greatest pride and joy are her three grown children William Banfield, Caitlin Banfield and Erin Banfield, her step-son Dan and step-daughter Megan, and her two grandsons William Banfield and Max McShane. She is married to Michael McShane, retired head coach Norwich University Men’s Ice Hockey.
