Legislative wins in Providence

Taxation

NFIB successfully fought legislation seeking to create additional income tax brackets that would have meant tax increases for pass-through entities. NFIB also successfully advocated for reforms that exempt the first $50,000 of tangible property from taxation.

Labor Costs

NFIB prevented legislation instituting a $20/hour minimum wage from advancing and attempts to phase out tipped wages for restaurants.

Unemployment Insurance (UI)

NFIB helped convince state lawmakers to use $100 million in federal aid to help shore up the unemployment insurance fund to reduce tax rates in 2023.

Transportation Climate Initiative

NFIB opposed the Transportation and Climate Initiative which was estimated to raise fuel costs from five to 38 cents per gallon. Lawmakers ended the session without acting.
