2023 Small Business Challenges & Opportunities Before the General Assembly

Upon the adjournment of the 2023 legislative session, there are several oustanding issues before the General Assembly that must be addressed. These issues include: Civil Justice Reform Helping to elect House and Senate members who understand that small business owners are always one lawsuit away from losing their company. Reducing the time allowed to bring a lawsuit from 5 to 2 years. Finding Qualified Workers Finding qualified workers is a top priority for our NFIB members. NFIB supports more job ready vocational opportunities to produce job ready employees in all sectors of small business. Workforce Development Supporting legislation that helps startup companies by using the Sandbox economic incentive, the Right to Start Act and opening the Office of Entrepreneurship. Broadband and Cybersecurity Supporting legislation that would help small businesses in rural areas obtain good internet access and aid in their ability to protect their computer networks. NFIB will continue working with lawmakers on behalf of small business owners on solutions to address these challenges.
