2021 Small Business Day at the Capitol Was the Best Yet

One of the many benefits of NFIB membership is the opportunity your association presents to hear directly from and talk directly to the top policymakers making the decisions affecting your ability to own, operate, and grow your business.

Small Business Days at the Capitol are one of the ways NFIB creates this opportunity, and with the April 7 (Virtual) Small Business Day, a new standard has been set. Joining in the two-hour event were:

  • Gov. Pete Ricketts
  • Sen. Mike Hilgers, Speaker of the Legislature
  • Sen. Tom Briese, Chairman of the General Affairs Committee
  • Sen. Mark Kolterman, Chairman of the Nebraska Retirement Systems Committee
  • Sen. Lou Ann Linehan, Chairwoman of the Revenue Committee

NFIB Nebraska hosts Jerry Stilmock and Ryan McIntosh began the event by briefing members on the progress of legislation helpful or harmful for small business. Questions to the guests from NFIB members included topics such as taxes, regulations, and COVID-19 liability protection from unfair lawsuits. In addition to answering a variety of questions, Speaker Hilgers also took some time to explain why Nebraska finds itself in financially better shape than other states, and Senator Briese encouraged small-business owners to get involved, especially on the issue of liability protection.

NFIB thanked its Small Business Day co-sponsors, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Independent Business Association, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, and Nebraskans for Workers Compensation Equity and Fairness.

Our biggest thanks go to our members who make NFIB what it is and empower it to attract our state’s top elected officials to any opportunity to talk with the people at the pulsing heart of every economy in the world—Small Business Owners.
