Small Business Owners Turn Thumbs Down on Proposition HH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tony Gagliardi, Colorado State Director, tony.gagliardi@nfib.org, or Tony Malandra, Senior Media Manager, anthony.malandra@nfib.org DENVER, Aug. 2, 2023—The result from a one-question special survey of its small-business-owning membership released today showed a 90% rejection of Proposition HH on this November’s ballot. Unique among business associations, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) regularly ballots its members on issues vital to their survival and then centers its lobbying and political positions on the results. NFIB is also the only small business association whose membership is comprised entirely of small-business owners who pay yearly dues to belong. NFIB Colorado’s most recent special ballot asked just one question: “Should Colorado reduce TABOR [Taxpayer Bill of Rights] tax refunds and use the retained funds to lower property taxes and increase education and local government funding?” Ninety percent were adamantly opposed to the idea, 9 percent supported it, and 1 percent were undecided.” “Small-business owners have been unwavering in their support for TABOR for the 30 years of its existence,” said Tony Gagliardi, Colorado state director for NFIB. “So, this result doesn’t really surprise, but it is a shining example of something small business owners cherish—predictability.
