Proposition HH Defeat a Big Victory for Small Business

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tony Gagliardi, Colorado State Director, 303-325-6243, tony.gagliardi@nfib.org, or Tony Malandra, Senior Media Manager, 415-640-5156, anthony.malandra@nfib.org DENVER, Nov. 7, 2023—NFIB Colorado, Colorado’s main small business association, released the following statement regarding the defeat of Proposition HH: “Proposition HH would have been a disaster for Colorado, and small business owners across the state are relieved today that voters decided to reject it and preserve TABOR,” said Tony Gagliardi, Colorado state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). “NFIB invested early and often to defeat Proposition HH, explaining to voters that it was a bait-and-switch, offering a temporary property tax cut but undoing TABOR refunds. Small business owners were in no mood to have politicians playing games with their hard-earned money. “ On September 25, NFIB Colorado launched an issue campaign to stop Proposition HH, including targeted radio and digital ads across the state urging voters to preserve TABOR and reject Proposition HH. Those ads ran through Election Day. Colorado small business owners were decidedly against Prop. HH, voting 90% in opposition to tossing something overboard that for 30 years has returned hard-earned money back to them.
