NFIB: Small Business Applauds Court’s Decision Against Local Paid Leave Ordinance

Date: March 10, 2021

NFIB State Director Annie Spilman released the following statement today in response to the San Antonio Court of Appeals affirming the trial court’s temporary injunction against San Antonio’s mandatory paid sick leave ordinance:

“The court’s decision is welcome news for small business owners who would have faced costly and burdensome consequences due to the paid sick leave ordinance. Small businesses are working hard to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, and adding an additional government mandate would have made the recovery even harder.

“Small businesses throughout the state are still facing regulatory uncertainty. We believe the Texas Legislature has an opportunity now to protect employers from a patchwork of local rules and regulations that do little besides create confusion and drive up costs.”
