On Tuesday, Jan. 11, the 112th Tennessee General Assembly will reconvene at noon after a very eventful year in 2021. With the new year comes exciting prospects for small businesses, as well as the usual caution. NFIB expects opportunities to include several tax and labor reform initiatives. We also expect legislation again that would add new mandates on your businesses and add new private rights of action, which NFIB will once again fight to defeat.
Specifically, we will renew efforts to repeal, once and for all, the $400 professional privilege tax on doctors, lawyers, and brokers. No one in Tennessee should be taxed simply to go to work!
Also, we expect legislation to be debated that potentially would reduce the burden of the tangible personal property tax, an NFIB priority based on early results from your 2022 Tennessee Ballot. If you haven’t already participated, there is still time to vote on this and other issues!
Lastly, don’t forget to register for Small Business Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 15. This is a great opportunity to hear from decision-makers and to use your influence on how certain legislation would impact your small business!
