Small Businesses Pay a Very Regressive Tax to do Business in Texas

DALLAS (Jan. 24, 2023) – “Texas is one of only nine states in the country that taxes a business on pretty much everything inside of their building,” NFIB State Director Annie Spilman said in an interview on 660 AM The Answer. “Everything that they’ve already purchased. Their desks and computers. Everything that they use to produce an income, like their equipment and inventory. Imagine if Texas did that to a homeowner. It’s hard enough to keep their doors open, but to pay this additional tax is just insane.” From ensuring regulatory consistency to cutting the inventory tax, Spilman outlined how NFIB is fighting on behalf of small business owners.
