WATCH: Regulatory Consistency Is the Way to Keep Texas ‘A Great Place to Work’
“[Employment law] should be consistent across the state. […] If they didn’t pass this law and municipalities begin to regulate my business, then in the state of Texas, I’m looking at over 1,400 municipalities that could possibly tell me I couldn’t do this or that.”Brown, who spends as much as five percent in business expenses on compliance with regulations already on the books, noted that more local ordinances would only increase costs for small business owners, who operate on thin margins. Finally, Brown noted that regulatory consistency is key to ensuring Texas remains economically competitive. Brown said:
