BILL SIGNED: Texas Regulatory Consistency Act Signed Into Law

Date: June 13, 2023

This week, Governor Greg Abbott signed the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act (HB 2127) into law, helping small business owners better comply with regulations, rather than being burdened by the complexity of multiple jurisdictions of law over their business practices.

Championed by Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) and Sen. Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe), the bill was approved by the House on a bipartisan basis in April, before passing the Senate in May.

Upon the bill becoming law, NFIB State Director Annie Spilman said:

“Uncertainty has been a hallmark of this economic environment. But today, small business owners have a little more certainty in the regulatory landscape of our great state. Our members are grateful to the Governor, Rep. Burrows, and Sen. Creighton for standing up for Main Street.”

NFIB and local job creators testified before both the House and Senate in support of the bill, with one NFIB member saying: “We need the protection of the state, when it comes to cities telling us how to run our businesses.”
