(HARRISBURG, PA) Nov. 24, 2021 – Small Business Saturday will be coming to your local Main Street on November 27th this year. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is encouraging all Pennsylvanians to get out and support the businesses in their communities during this holiday season and every season.

Small Business Saturday is an annual event that celebrates small businesses and encourages consumers to shop locally during the kickoff of the holiday shopping season.

Falling annually on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday is the perfect day for consumers to shop local and support the small businesses that are essential to their communities. “Pennsylvania’s small businesses continue to recover from the devastating effects from the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 business closures and supporting them during the holiday season is making a positive economic investment in your community and the Commonwealth’s economic recovery,” said NFIB Pennsylvania State Director Greg Moreland.

According to a recent survey by NFIB, 73 percent of small businesses have not seen their sales volume return to pre-COVID levels and 59 percent anticipate that their local community will not return to pre-crisis level of economic activity until sometime in the second half of 2022 or later.[1]

Small Business Saturday has been held the weekend after Thanksgiving since it was created eleven years ago following the 2009 recession. The event gained in popularity, and local consumers spent a record $19.6 billion on Small Business Saturday in 2019 according to the Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey conducted by American Express and NFIB.
