WATCH: Governor Calls for Phasing Out State Income Tax

NFIB State Director Dawn Starns McVea released the following statement today in response Gov. Tate Reeves’ State of the State Address:

“We support the governor’s call to eliminate the state income tax. That’s a big deal to small businesses because most small businesses are organized as pass-through entities, meaning they pay taxes at the individual rate rather than the corporate rate. Eliminating the personal income tax would provide much-needed financial relief to small business owners struggling to recover from the economic slump caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re also encouraged by the governor’s commitment to workforce development. Finding and keeping qualified workers is a perennial problem for small businesses and other employers. We look forward to working with Governor Reeves and legislative leaders on a solution that helps put people to work.”
