NFIB Launches Ad Campaign Supporting Efforts to Eliminate the State Income Tax

The Mississippi office of the National Federation of Independent Business today launched a statewide radio and online ad campaign supporting efforts to repeal the state income tax. The campaign also includes a website, NFIB.com/MStax, with details about the House and Senate versions of the bill and links to local legislators.   Click here to hear the radio ad. “We don’t usually do big ad campaigns but eliminating the state income tax is one of our members’ top priorities,” NFIB State Director Dawn McVea said. “Our small business members want to send a clear message to Jackson that we cannot afford to continue overpaying to run state government.” Most small businesses in the state are organized as pass-through entities, meaning their owners pay taxes at the individual rate, she said. “Eliminating the state income tax would put more money in peoples’ pockets and make it easier for small businesses to expand, add jobs, and offer people higher wages,” McVea said. “This is Mississippi’s best chance yet at relieving some of the financial pressure on families and local businesses,” McVea said. “Our hope is that people will contact their legislators and encourage them to vote ‘yes’ on these historic tax reforms.” Here is a transcript of the radio ad: “Mississippians pay over $1 billion a year in state income taxes. That’s a billion they can’t use to buy groceries, school supplies, or pay rent. When it comes to most small businesses, that’s a billion they can’t use to buy equipment, expand, or offer better pay and benefits. That’s why NFIB supports bills to eliminate Mississippi’s individual income tax and put more money in people’s pockets. Visit NFIB.com/MStax and tell Jackson it’s time to eliminate Mississippi’s individual income tax. Paid for by the National Federation of Independent Business.”
