Maryland’s minimum wage increases January 1

Changes to the Minimum Wage

The minimum wage is scheduled to increase in Maryland on January 1, 2023. Howard County will also increase, but to a different amount from the state’s minimum.
  • Maryland – $13.25 for employers with 15 or more employees; $12.80 for employers with 14 or fewer employees. See wage poster.
  • Howard County, MD – $15.00 for employers with 15 or more employees; $13.25 for employers with 14 or fewer employees. See wage poster.
  • Montgomery County, MD – Current minimum wage is $15.65 for employers with 51 or more employees; $14.50 for employers with 11 to 50 employees; $14.00 for employers with 10 or fewer employees. See wage poster.
Governor-elect Wes Moore has signaled he will support efforts to accelerate the minimum wage increase to $15 per hour when he takes office in January. Under current law the state’s minimum wage will hit $15 on January 1, 2025 for employers with 15 or more employees and July 1, 2026 for those employers with 14 or fewer. He’s also expressed interest in tying future increases to the Consumer Price Index. NFIB will be actively engaged on this issue when the legislature convenes for the 2023 legisliative session on January 11. Please contact State Director Mike O’Halloran with any questions.
