Small Business Owners Urge Senate to Support Bill Returning Unused Tax Dollars to General Fund

Small Business Owners Urge Senate to Support Bill Returning Unused Tax Dollars to General Fund

February 2, 2024 Last Edit: June 5, 2025

The measure would ease pressure on lawmakers to raise taxes or impose additional fees on Main Street

State Director Natalie Robinson says NFIB’s small business members are urging their senators to vote “yes” on Senate Bill 4, a measure creating a process for returning unused tax dollars to the General Fund. The bill could come up for a vote as early as Monday.

“It’s estimated the state could recover over $40 million in unused tax dollars under this legislation,” Robinson said. “Returning that money to the General Fund would reduce the need to increase taxes or impose unnecessary fees on small businesses and could enable officials to spend more on workforce development.

“Senate Bill 4 would help boost Indiana’s economy and create an environment that encourages owners to operate and grow their businesses,” she said. “That’s why we’re asking the Senate to pass this commonsense legislation.”
