The Illinois minimum wage will again increase on January 1 from $11 to $12/hour. The increase, passed into law in 2019, phases in a $1 increase annually until 2025, when the minimum wage will become $15/hour. The tip-wage also increases on January 1 from $6.60 to $7.20/hour. Tipped employees must be paid minimum wage, but an employer may take credit for the employee’s tips in an amount not to exceed 40% of the wages.
