Action Alert—Stop the Great Sales Tax Spike

Date: March 07, 2022

Making Idaho's the highest in the nation is not the way to reduce property taxes

House Bill 741 calls for raising Idaho’s sales tax rate from its current 6% to 7.85%, which would make it the highest of any state in the nation.

Although the bill’s goal of reducing property taxes is laudable, its method of increasing the sales tax by more than 30% is not—especially not when the state has $1.9 billion in surplus revenues.

Small businesses already face record inflation, supply chain disruptions, and a historic shortage of workers. This is no time to raise taxes on them.

Please tell your lawmakers that while you appreciate the attempt to lower property taxes, a convoluted increase on sales taxes is the wrong direction and this is no time to add $800 million in taxes on Idaho citizens.
