PHOENIX, Jan. 15, 2021—From Chad Heinrich, Arizona state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state and nation’s leading and largest small-business association, on today’s release of Gov. Doug Ducey’s proposed budget for the state.

“The budget proposal Gov. Doug Ducey released today further documents his reputation as one of the most innovative state chief executives in the nation. From the development of more broadband capability in rural Arizona to streamlining the startup process for business creation, Governor Ducey continues to strive to make Arizona competitive over other states. We also welcome the conversation on tax competitiveness that this budget begins.

“As never before, there is great uncertainty across the small-business community about many things. Being innovative and staying competitive is especially timely because no one knows yet how heavy-handed with job-killing taxes, mandates, and regulations the new administration in Washington D.C. intends to get.

“If our Governor and Legislature can allay some of the fears small-business owners have, which this budget does, they will have gone a long way to helping spur our state’s economic recovery. We know that both the Governor and legislative leaders recognize and appreciate that small-business owners have more than just their enterprises on the line; they also have their employees, their employees’ families, and their customers’ economic fate in their hands. We are possibly on the cusp of achieving many positive things through this budget and during this legislative session.”
