Local Job Creators Call on Lawmakers to Oppose HB 2290

PHOENIX (March 29, 2023) – Small business owners from across the Grand Canyon State are urging lawmakers on the House Government Affairs Committee to oppose HB 2290, legislation that would increase the cost of health care by inserting lawyers into medical decision making. This comes on the heels of a recent survey that found more than 90 percent of small business owners “find it challenging” to afford health insurance for their employees.

Ahead of the hearing, NFIB State Director Chad Heinrich warned that HB 2290 would be shouldered by Arizona taxpayers and job creators alike:

“HB 2290 is a short-sighted proposal that will increase health care costs for everyone. More mandates on a heavily regulated industry will not result in better care, but increased costs for consumers. Job creators see the value in providing health coverage for their employees – but by increasing the cost of health care, HB 2290 would put this benefit out of reach for more small businesses and their employees. Small business owners are asking lawmakers to reject HB 2290.”

From Glendale to Coconino County, small business owners oppose HB 2290, calling the bill “a solution in search of a problem,” and “another roadblock” to affordable health coverage. One NFIB member from Maricopa County stated:

“Health care already costs a fortune. Don’t make it worse with over regulation that will increase costs. Current laws already work for recourse as needed.”
