Job Creators Applaud Governor Kelly’s Signature of Bipartisan Bill to Safeguard Small Businesses from Litigation Abuse

Date: April 19, 2023

TOPEKA (April 19, 2023) – Following Governor Laura Kelly’s signature of S Sub for House Bill 2016, a bipartisan bill to safeguard against potentially abusive litigation stemming from website violations under the Americans with Disability Act, NFIB State Director Dan Murray issued a statement commending the Governor and Legislature for taking action to protect local job creators from frivolous lawsuits:

“Our job creators operate on thin margins that make it difficult to afford compliance officers and attorneys. Looking to make a quick buck, predatory trial attorneys have weaponized the transformative work of the Americans with Disabilities Act against small business owners, who often settle as quickly as possible to avoid mounting costs. Thanks to Governor Kelly and the leadership of the Kansas Legislature, small business owners can rest a little easier knowing they have a tool at their disposal to address this damaging, abusive legal trend.”
