Alabama’s labor force participation rate, which sits at little more than 57%, is the third-lowest in the country, according to data from the St. Louis Federal Reserve. Small business owners regularly tell NFIB that they have unfilled positions. In fact a recent survey of NFIB members found that nearly 77% of respondents would consider hiring and training high school students if they could work part-time during the school day as a part of a cooperative education program.

There’s no doubt filling open positions continues to be an enormous challenge for small business owners across the state. NFIB Alabama is continuing to work with lawmakers and state government leaders to find solutions to provide you with the employees you need.
