Back-to-School Tax Holiday a Chance to Support Local Businesses

NFIB State Director Rosemary Elebash says Alabama’s upcoming back-to-school tax holiday is a chance for people who support local businesses still reeling from a series of economic setbacks that began with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This year’s sales tax holiday will be July 15-17. “Higher fuel prices, supply chain and labor issues, and soaring inflation are affecting every kind of business, but they’re especially hard on small, independent businesses,” Elebash said. “That’s why we’re encouraging our members and everyone else to shop for clothes, computers, books, and school supplies at locally-owned stores this weekend.” Small business owners surveyed for NFIB’s latest Small Business Economic Trends report ranked inflation as the No. 1  issue affecting their business, followed by quality of labor. “Small business is the heart and soul of Alabama’s economy,” Elebash said. “Small businesses account for over 99% of all businesses in the state and employ nearly half of the state’s workforce. Small businesses do a lot for our communities. We can return the favor next weekend by shopping small for school clothes and supplies.” For a list of participating counties and municipalities and other details, visit https://revenue.alabama.gov/sales-use/sales–tax–holidays/.
