Prepping for Paid Leave

Date: June 14, 2017

As you know, New York passed legislation enacted Paid Family Leave in April 2016. This new mandate is set to take effect on January 1, 2018. NFIB/NY has recently weighed in with public comments concerning the proposed rules and regulations with the Workers’ Compensation Board. Additionally, revised regulations have recently been released for public comment. These new, revised regulations can be found here: http://www.wcb.ny.gov/PFL/pfl-regs.jsp

NFIB/NY will again be submitting our concerns with these new proposed regulations and has had recent discussions with the Workers’ Compensation Board to ensure small businesses are given the proper guidance, notice and consideration with this new mandate as it becomes effective. The Workers’ Compensation Board will be sending notices to all employers in New York about Paid Family Leave, including guidance and training opportunities, as well as information regarding the commencement of payroll deductions for the leave program prior to January 1, 2018.

The Workers’ Compensation Board will be sending notices to all employers in New York about Paid Family Leave, including guidance and training opportunities, as well as information regarding the commencement of payroll deductions for the leave program prior to January 1, 2018. Please be on the look out for this information and as always, your NFIB/NY team is here to help.
