NFIB sends letter of support for a bill to expand Health Savings Account access
What it means: NFIB sent a letter to Congress in support of a bill to expand Health Savings Accounts for small businesses, giving them flexibility to offer healthcare plans to employees.
Our take: New healthcare legislation will help expand access to Health Savings Accounts and give small business owners much-needed flexibility to provide affordable coverage options for their employees. Congress must advance this legislation to fight rising healthcare costs.
Take Action: Tell lawmakers how unsustainable healthcare costs affect your small business!
Healthcare affordability has been one of the biggest challenges small business owners have faced for decades. As costs continue to increase, small businesses are often left with few options and the difficult choice of continuing to operate their business or providing a healthcare plan for their employees.
NFIB sent a letter to Representative Eric Burlison in support of the Great American Healthcare Plan (H.R. 8324). This legislation would expand Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and give small business owners another flexible healthcare option. It provides an immediate solution to help alleviate soaring healthcare costs.
A recent NFIB member ballot showed 94% of NFIB members support the federal government allowing small businesses to use tax-free dollars from an HSA to pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance, while 98% of members have indicated that their ability to provide healthcare for employees will become unsustainable in the next 5-10 years.
Small businesses need legislative action to fight the rising cost of healthcare. Read the full letter here for more information.
