The General Assembly won’t gavel back into session until Jan. 11, but that doesn’t mean the work stops in the Peach State.

Throughout the summer and fall, lawmakers will convene a series of interim study committees in Atlanta and across Georgia to dig into policy issues that could shape legislation affecting the state’s small business owners in the year ahead.

Interim committees don’t write or vote on bills, but they gather testimony, data, and stakeholder input that often becomes the basis for legislation once the session begins. NFIB Georgia State Director Hunter Loggins will be tracking several of these committees closely on behalf of small business owners across the state:

While no specific legislative proposals have emerged from these committees yet, the range of topics touches nearly every corner of the small business community. Issues like local taxation and budgeting, pharmacy benefit manager practices, and workforce stability are perennial concerns for NFIB members, and the direction these interim discussions take could influence bills filed when the General Assembly reconvenes in January.
