New NFIB Op-Ed: Unleash Small Business Growth in Additional Reconciliation Bill

New NFIB Op-Ed: Unleash Small Business Growth in Additional Reconciliation Bill

May 26, 2026

New package should bolster small business success with crucial tax, regulatory, and healthcare reforms

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 26, 2026) – In a new op-ed published in The Hill, Adam Temple, NFIB Senior Vice President for Advocacy, urges Congress to unleash small business growth by including expanded tax relief, regulatory reforms, and healthcare savings in the next reconciliation package. Temple offers specific solutions such as increasing the Small Business Deduction from 20 percent to 23 percent, repealing the burdensome Beneficial Ownership Information reporting mandate for good, and enacting affordable healthcare legislation to help small businesses offer benefits to more employees.

Temple writes:

“In last year’s reconciliation bill, Congress delivered one of the greatest wins for Main Street in history by working with President Trump to make the 20 percent Small Business Deduction permanent. This landmark victory ensures that small businesses can deduct 20 percent of their income, giving them a more level playing field against big businesses. This critical win also ensures that over 30 million small businesses did not see a massive tax increase at the end of 2025. Over the past year, small businesses have responded by investing their tax savings in everything from wage hikes to new hires to sponsorships of local T-Ball teams.

“But now Main Street is asking Congress to further unleash small business growth with expanded tax relief, regulatory reforms and healthcare savings.”

[…]

“Will Congress rise to the occasion? President Trump has called on lawmakers to pass another reconciliation bill before the midterm elections. Congress should answer this call as quickly as possible, for the sake of Main Street and all the workers and communities that depend on it. With another round of relief small businesses will thrive, and their success will make America stronger.”
