The regulation evaluation portal is open for Texas small business owners’ feedback.
AUSTIN, TX (May 15, 2026) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state’s leading small business advocacy organization, welcomes Governor Greg Abbott’s formal launch of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office’s (TREO) website. According to the Governor’s office, the platform connects users directly with state agencies, catalogs recommendations for slashing red tape, and simplifies regulatory requirements for clear, real-time instruction.
NFIB State Director Jeff Burdett, who co-chaired Governor Abbott’s Small Business Freedom Council, applauded the website as a major victory for Main Street Texans.
“Here in Texas, we pride ourselves on our entrepreneurial spirit and commonsense approach to regulation,” Burdett said. “It’s essential we don’t grow complacent. The Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office’s new website gives small business owners a tool to ensure our state government is more efficient and less costly. We look forward to supporting TREO’s important work in eliminating duplicative regulations and cutting red tape that could be holding back small business growth.”
Background:
During the 2025 Legislative Session, NFIB championed SB 14 (Parker/Capriglione) to establish the TREO within the governor’s office to identify opportunities to reduce regulatory, administrative, and licensing burdens for small businesses.
According to the Governor’s office, the TREO has begun its initial round of agency reviews, already identifying and recommending more than 435 regulations for amendment or repeal across 11 state agencies. TREO estimates these initial recommendations can reduce 69,000 words from the Texas Administrative Code and save Texas taxpayers an estimated $123 million so far.
Small business owners can make recommendations and submit feedback through TREO’s Evaluation Portal.
NFIB is a member-driven organization advocating on behalf of small and independent businesses nationwide.
