May 19 Primary Will Take Place As Planned

The ballot includes races for governor, U.S. Senate, and other offices

Despite recent confusion about Alabama’s congressional maps, the state’s May 19 primary election will take place as planned.

The uncertainty comes from ongoing court fights over Alabama’s congressional districts and a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling involving Louisiana’s congressional map.

Gov. Kay Ivey has called a special session of the Legislature to prepare for possible changes if the courts allow Alabama to use earlier congressional and state Senate maps.

House and Senate committees this week approved bills allowing special primaries in some congressional and state Senate districts if courts eventually approve the older maps, but these bills are still pending.

NFIB State Director Rosemary Elebash says it’s important for small business owners to vote on May 19 as scheduled.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. The ballot includes races for governor, U.S. Senate, and other offices.
