DENVER (May 6, 2026) – Following the House’s passage of HB 1054, which creates a new, state-level workplace safety regulatory regime, NFIB State Director Michael Smith urged the Senate to stand up for small business owners and reject the bill.

“Responsible employers care about workplace safety,” Smith said. “The majority of small business owners do everything they can to protect their employees and promote a safe work environment.

“This bill is well-intended, but in reality, it will burden Main Street business owners with more rules, more paperwork, and more legal exposure. Regulatory hurdles make it more difficult for Main Street businesses to keep their doors open, their customers served, and Coloradans employed. On behalf of our members, we urge the Senate to reject HB 1054.”
