The "Climate Superfund" bill would retroactively punish energy companies for fossil fuel extraction activities

Climate activists and progressive lawmakers in Minnesota are urging the state legislature to pass the “Climate Superfund” bill, which would retroactively punish energy companies for fossil fuel extraction activities dating back to 1995.

Fossil fuel companies would be forced to make payments into a new “Greenhouse Gas Pollution Account” to pay for “climate change adaptation” projects. These costs will most likely be passed onto consumers, which will increase the cost of reliable energy across the board.

One estimate by the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform estimates that the proposal could cost at least $85 billion over the next five years. This translates an increase in energy costs by about $7,000 per household if passed.

This bill is being heard this Thursday, April 9th. Urgent action is needed.

Take action NOW and tell your state representative to OPPOSE HF 3945!
