TAKE ACTION: End Swipe Fees on Sales Taxes

Contact your lawmaker and urge them to support SB 134, a bipartisan bill to eliminate credit card swipe fees on sales taxes

The Colorado General Assembly is considering SB 134, a bipartisan bill to eliminate credit card swipe fees on sales taxes.

“Reducing these fees would help my small business tremendously,” says Golden small business owner Lisa Pizzo.

Every time a customer pays with a credit card, small businesses are charged 1.5%–3.5% on the total transaction, including the sales tax they are required to collect and remit to the state. Small business owners should not be penalized for collecting taxes on the government’s behalf, and credit card companies should not be allowed to profit off Colorado’s tax system. In 2024, Colorado merchants paid an estimated $217 million in swipe fees on sales taxes alone.

Contact your state legislators and urge them to support SB 134 to eliminate swipe fees on sales taxes.
