OLYMPIA, Wash., Feb. 23, 2026—Washington state’s largest and leading small business association today announced the launch of a public awareness campaign aimed at defeating Senate Bill 6346, the so-called Millionaire Tax.

“Leave it to Olympia to make millionaires out of people who don’t make a million dollars,” said Patrick Connor, state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Washington. “Or, as some small business owners have told me, my business might – in a rare, good year – make a million dollars, I don’t.”

This inability to make that distinction could prove ruinous to many smaller enterprises, according to Connor. “Under SB 6346, sole proprietor and pass-through business income is taxed at the individual level regardless of whether that income is actually distributed to the owner,” said Connor. “This creates serious cashflow risks, particularly for businesses that reinvest earnings, operate under lending restrictions, or experience year-to-year income volatility.”

Information about the campaign can be found at ProtectWashingtonSmallBusiness.org, where you’ll find brief, bulleted information on:

  • The Legislature’s recent $9 billion increase in taxes
  • How those not making $1 million could be affected
  • How it will apply to businesses grossing about $1 million
  • If an income tax is against the law In Washington state
  • How the money will be spent and if there will be any small business tax relief
  • What NFIB is doing to protect small businesses against the tax.
