Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Approves Congestion Pricing Toll at $15 Per Day

April 2, 2024 Last Edit: June 5, 2025

On March 27th, the MTA formally approved the controversial Congestion Pricing Toll at $15 per day in an 11-1 vote. This pricing plan will impact drivers entering the Central Business District (CBD), including the area from 60th Street in Manhattan and below, all the way down to the southern tip of the Financial District.

Drivers will be charged different toll amounts. Passenger vehicles will be charged $15, large trucks, $36, small trucks, $24, and motorcycles, $7.50. The toll will be enforced through license plate scanners from 5AM-9PM on weekdays and 9AM-9PM on weekends. Drivers will only be charged for entering the CBD, not leaving it, with one toll charged per day.

The toll will not be charged for taxis, but drivers will be charged a $1.25 surcharge per ride. This will be the same for rideshare drivers, including Uber and Lyft, but their surcharge will be $2.50 per ride.

MTA congestion pricing is tentatively scheduled to begin in June; however, several pending lawsuits will continue to challenge the program.
