Small Business Owners to Missouri General Assembly: Curb Lawsuit Abuse Now

February 4, 2026

Annual small business survey finds the majority of Main Street members oppose the regulation of websites

Ahead of the General Assembly’s 2026 session, state members of the National Federation of Independent Business strongly oppose regulations of websites to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), according to NFIB’s annual survey.

This comes after a flurry of ADA web accessibility demand letters were sent to all types of Missouri small businesses across the state. NFIB is working with lawmakers on reforms to curb ADA lawsuit abuse in the Legislature.

“Unfortunately, predatory trial attorneys weaponize the transformative work of the ADA against small business owners to make a quick buck,” NFIB State Director Brad Jones said. “NFIB is working with lawmakers on a commonsense solution to curb ADA lawsuit abuse in our state.”
